CULTURE DIVERSITY:
Our world is filled with unique people from different backgrounds. Our classroom is made up of special and beautiful individuals who are from different parts of the world. Though all of us live in the same city, attend the same school, learn in the same classroom, we are all different. We are from diverse cultures. This subject sampler will help students identify the meaning of culture and diversity. Students will explore their cultures and the cultures of their classmates.

Identifying and understanding the meaning of culture.
- Go to Kids.Wordsmyth.
- Listen to and say the pronunciation of "culture."
- Read the definition. Write down the words you know and don't know in the KWL Chart.
Click on the buttons under each image to learn the meaning of each word and to complete the Cluster Word Web 2 graphic organizer.
- Using the Cluster Word Web 2 graphic organizer, write the word "culture" in the circle that says "Topic." Write the meaning on the back of the graphic organizer.
- Write the word "custom" in the circle on the left side of "culture." Write the meaning on the back of the graphic organizer.
- Write the word "tradition" in the circle on the right side of "culture." Write the meaning on the back of the graphic organizer.

- To learn more about your friends and/or teacher, discuss, ask questions about their culture, customs, or traditions?
- Groups will share what they learned about each other with the entire class.

Now that you have learned about cultural diversity, how can you respect, appreciate and value one another’s culture?
- Visit Kids' Health. Read why being different is great.
- What are the 3 words that describe how some people are unkind to others who seem different in some way.
- Complete the KWL Chart. Discuss with the teacher what you have learned, still do not understand, and want to know.
